Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations

Meet the Band

Pat Colwell

Former Speaker of the Maine  House of Representatives, (the nation’s only “Rock ‘N Roll Speaker”) paves the way with searing guitar leads from by-gone eras tastefully blended into contemporary versions of heart-wrenching soul music. His voice is reminiscent of soul men Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, and Eddie Floyd. Pat was lead singer in the legendary Rock and Roll band, Jupiter Blues, and still performs regularly with brother Bob Colwell in the nationally acclaimed R&B act, The Colwell Brothers Band! Pat has shared the stage with a “Who’s, Who” of musicians including: CCR, Bonnie Raitt, NRBQ, the J. Geils Band, Tom Rush, and Michael Doucet with Beausoleil Band.

Julie Ouellette Ward

Julie grew up singing in church and she is still “taking audiences to church” every time she belts out her soulful renditions of Soul Classics from Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, and the Queen of Soul, ARETHA! She has worked in a number of bands in L/A, including a stint in the rock powerhouse Shady Lady but Soul Music is her first love.  Julie never leaves a drop of energy on the stage and delivers from the bottom of her soul!

Dave Thibodeau

Dave is a musician’s musician having provided rock-bottom bass for Big Chief, Alter Igor, The Colwell Brothers Band, Kenya Hall, and countless top-notch musical artists throughout the Northeast. You name ’em he’s played with ’em! “Tib” grew up in a musical family and spent his youth touring with his dad, Country Music and Blue Grass Legend… Sam Tidwell!

Ronnie Bouffard

Augusta, Maine native, Ronnie began studying drumming at the age of 12 and had the good fortune to study under the direction of Jazz Legend Dick Demers. Later at the University of Maine, Ronnie studied under the direction of Dominic Moi, and he received his degree in Music Performance.  Ronnie joined the teaching staff at the University of Maine in Augusta as the primary drum instructor, teaching there for 7 years.  Presently, Ronnie focuses his talent on performing with several Maine bands, including: Pat Colwell & The Soul Sensations, The Sons of the Beach, Malinda Liberty & Cowboy Billy, and The Groove Kings. He has performed and recorded with the following acts: Devonsquare, The Port City All-stars, The Corona Brothers, Dan Merrill Band, Cats Eye, Denny Breau,  Lynn Deeves, Johnny Rawls, The Don Campbell Band and of course Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations.

Marcia Gallagher

Marcia is the newest member of the Soul Sensations but brings a wealth of experience and talent to the show. Marcia is a professor of music at the world re-known University of Maine Augusta music program, teaching both keyboards and vocals. When she is not touring with the Soul Sensations she performs the “Great American Songbook” as Marcia, Marcia throughout the northeast.

David “The Doctor” Wakefield

Dave Wakefield began his musical journey in typical 60’s fashion with a band named the Euphorious Id. While the group didn’t win any awards for ‘Best Name” they did back-up a number of recording artists at the famous Palace Ballroom in Old Orchard Beach. The “Id” included future Blend members Jimmy Drown and Skip Smith and worked with legends like Chubby Checker, The Strangeloves, and Johnny Cymbal.

Eventually Dave returned home to Maine and began blowing harp and sax with Colwell in the legendary Blues/Rock outfit, Jupiter Blues and performing throughout the Northeast. Dave’s honest and roots style has earned him accolades and work with a number of top acts including: Bill Chinnock, The Rockin’ King Bees (with the late great Mike and Nick Curran), The Upsetters, The Red-Light Revue, and blues-man K.D. Bell.

Dave currently divides his time between performing and making records with The Colwell Brothers and Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations. His solo record, Crooks, was warmly received and he is working on a follow-up project at the Root Cellar in Hallowell, Maine.

Parker Kenyon

A highly trained, and skilled, multi-instrumentalist, Parker Kenyon hops from Baritone Sax to Trombone and from Alto to Flugelhorn creating a hornucopia of Motown/Memphis Magic for Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations. Parker creates and writes all of the charts for the horn section and seamlessly welds them into a single voice – true to the soul vision of the band!

Parker was previously based in Pennsylvania and Nashville and toured extensively with the Blues Other Brothers and multiple show bands from those locations. His love for all things brass has led him to pursue a genre-hopping journey that includes concert bands, theater orchestras, marching bands, and even German Oom Pah Pah music (his taste for good beer helps with that). Here in Maine, Parker performs regularly with The Little Pat Colwell Band (LPCB), Innovation Brass, the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, Sojourn, and of course Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations.
